When everyone follows the trends, choose your own style

It has perhaps never been easier to know what is trendy. We no longer have to wait for the next season, a magazine or what appears in the shop windows. We are served it every single day. In the feed, on TikTok, from the people we follow and through algorithms that eventually know our taste quite well.
It makes it easy to get inspired, but maybe also a little harder to know what we actually like ourselves.
Because when everyone sees the same references, follows the same trends and is recommended the same things, it's no wonder that we end up wanting a lot of the same things.
At KAAPE, we find the opposite far more interesting.

Personal style isn't about having the most
Personal style doesn't have to mean being the most daring person in the room, nor does it have to mean having a wardrobe full of special pieces.
It could be the same coat you wear year after year. A color you're always drawn to. A silhouette you feel good in, even when the fashion world tells you something completely different is in right now.
Maybe personal style really begins when you stop asking "What's trendy?" and instead ask "What do I like?"
And once you find the things that feel like you, there's no reason to stop using them.

Repeating outfits is a flex.
Clothes can be personal again
Much of today's fashion is made for a huge number of people at once. It's efficient, accessible, and allows us to buy the same garment almost anywhere in the world.
But we believe there is value in the opposite as well.
Knowing where your clothes come from. Choosing something yourself. Knowing the story behind the material. Having a garment that doesn't necessarily exist in thousands of identical copies.
For us, individuality is not just about how a garment looks. It's also about the relationship you have with it.
The best material doesn't have to be new
Personal style is also about seeing value where others may not.
KAAPE started with that very idea. Around us in Sunnmøre there is a furniture industry known for good materials and high quality. At the same time, there is leftover fabric that is no longer used in furniture production.
For us, that very substance could be the start of something new.
It also means that the material can help determine the expression. What's available right now, what colors and textures we can get our hands on, and what you choose to do with it.

The best fabric might already exist.
Style that lasts longer than a trend
We have nothing against trends. Fashion should be fun, and being inspired by others is part of how style evolves.
But not everything we like needs to be replaced when the next trend comes along.
Some garments get better because we wear them a lot. They become part of how others recognize us, what we feel good in, and eventually maybe even our history.
That's the kind of clothes we want to make.
Not necessarily what everyone else wants.
But something that feels like yours.

In a world where everyone follows trends, choose your own style.
